This past Saturday I shot Mike and Kourtney’s wedding, as their Spencer wedding photographer, near Spencer, Iowa. It was the rainiest wedding to date this year, but we made the-absolute-best of it! We shot as many portraits as we could within five to ten minute chunks.
Even though we missed out on glowy sunshine, I got to play with the most beautiful details! The flowers alone had me drooling – DAHLIAS! I haven’t seen dahlias at any weddings yet, even though they’re one of the top flowers of 2019! The Willow Tree Garden Center did a phenomenal job with the florals! In addition, I love the perfume bottle Kourtney chose and the earrings! The sparkle, the bling, the pops of pink! She’s a bride after my own heart.
Now I want to continue the tradition of telling “the moment Breezy cried,” because yes, I am still tearing up at every single wedding. Before each first look, I coach the groom a little bit, telling him which way to turn and when to turn. Then I usually joke: “And if you could cry a little tear, that would just be great.” Mike chuckled at me when I said this and brushed it off.
But to my complete surprise, when he turned around and saw Kourtney walking toward him on the dock for the first time, he was red eyed and tearing up! He may hate me for telling everyone this…but it’s worth it. It was the sweetest moment to witness this big tough guy who works on electrical power lines for a living become overtaken with joy and emotion when he saw his wife-to-be! I secretly cried and sniffled behind my camera while shooting the entire first look!
My job is challenging, but it’s also the coolest thing ever! I love what I do, and Mike and Kourtney’s wedding was no exception! I had a blast shooting your wedding near Spencer, Iowa. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Wiegmann, and thank you SO much for inviting me into this big day in your lives together!
