Flying back to Colorado for Kyle & Sydney’s intimate wedding at Ken Caryl Vista was perfect timing before the Covid19 scare took off. The weather was glorious for mid-March Colorado. The setting was breath-taking! Especially when Sydney was willing to sneak through some dead bushes and climb a huge boulder to get some jaw-dropping images with the red rocks and foothills in the background!!
Sydney is such a sweet, joyful young woman. I shot her senior photos back when I still lived in Colorado and I met Kyle back then too! I took some of the first professional photos of them as a couple during a family session! Kyle reminds me of a giant teddy bear. His warm, inviting smile, and quick wit, puts anybody at ease in his presence. Together, Kyle & Sydney, are an amazing couple, vibrant & ready to take on life together…even with a crazy start during the pandemic panic.
The entire day was filled with powerful gestures of love, emotion and memories. While I wasn’t able to fully capture the heartfelt exchange during Kyle & Sydney’s first-look letter reading, the raw emotions were powerful. I came through the doorway with poor timing, but got to see them laughing with each other through tears of joy! They must have written some beautiful words to one another. But that wasn’t the only time emotion took over. Tears of joy sprinkled throughout the entire day.
The best moment was when we all gathered in a side sitting room. It was filled with sunlight and warmth. Sydney sat on a small bench next to her sweet Grandma (one of the only Grandparents able to make it for the day). Her Grandmother began reading a heartfelt note about her journey with love in the past, lessons she has learned and wants to pass on to Sydney, and an explanation of the gift she was about to present. They pulled out a tiny box, wrapped in pink paper and obviously tied with care with a sweet little ribbon. Inside was a keychain, specially made for Sydney’s wedding day that had a spoon from her father’s childhood and meaningful charms her Grandma had chosen. Sydney rushed to add the keychain to her bouquet wrap and it was one of the most beautiful moment’s I’ve seen at a wedding day.
Not every moment was serious; there were SO many chances for laughter throughout the day! With Kyle, I am not sure anyone could go a full day without laughing. He is non-stop care and entertainment! I think the funniest part of the day was handing Sydney the most valuable gift I could find: the last pack of Cottonelle Wipes I could find at Target! My gift was QUICKLY trumped by a genius guest who made an entire toilet paper cake, similar to diaper cakes you see at baby showers. I love the documentation value of my job; I mean it when I say I want to tell the unique story of your wedding day. The fact that these two got married in the midst of our communities shutting down and running out of toilet paper in the stores, will be a HUGE story they tell their grandchildren one day!
Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Nickells.!! Thank you so much for trusting me with capturing these precious memories. I hope you love this little peek at your wedding photos as much as I do!!
